Dementia Care Hospital Wards

Two projects to refurbish wards at RUH Bath Hospital to create dementia friendly environments.

At Combe Ward, despite the 11 week construction programme, a key requirement was engagement with the clinical staff, carers and patient representatives. Colours and finishes were selected to be homelike and comfortable with the creation of informal seating areas throughout the ward.

The ward was awarded the Elder Friendly Quality Mark in recognition of the quality of care its patients receive, by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Following this project, O’LearyGoss were appointed to complete the refurbishment of the adjoining Waterhouse Ward. The eight week construction programme converted this former surgical ward into a ‘dementia friendly’ medical ward, in accordance with the Kings Fund Enhancing Environment
