National Blood Service Laboratories, Bristol + Birmingham

2001-2004

Complete refurbishment of existing laboratories included new benching, data and comms services. A new walk-in fridge and a number of specialist “blast freezers” were incorporated into the facility. The Birmingham facility required two new “clean room standard negative pressure” Amplification and Extraction laboratories, with associated lobbies and changing rooms, for specialized testing of blood.

The laboratories had to remain a clean area at all times, and had to continue in operation throughout the building works. Works were programmed around this requirement, to include out of hours and overnight working.
