Smyth Road


This proposed three storey building for Crown Developments provides nine apartments in south Bristol. The challenging site is defined by three roads, with a curved boundary to the fourth side. The geometry is further complicated by nearly a storey change in level from one corner to the other. Despite the limitations of the site, eight of the nine apartments have generous private balconies.  A mottled grey brick mix provides a subtle contrast with the dark brick of the adjacent building.

The building is designed to have low energy use with on site renewable generation from roof mounted photovoltaic panels integrated with a biodiverse roofing system. Domestic hot water is provided by air source heat pumps.

The project received planning permission in 2019 and construction completed in summer 2021.
