16 Redcross Street to 32 Old Market Street, Bristol

2009 -

O'LearyGoss Architects developed the original proposals by Quentin Alder Architect to provide a residential development along a proposed new public walkway linking Old Market Street and the new Cabot Circus quarter in central Bristol. The new scheme, following revised planning and listed building consent applications, increased the development content to 43 apartments and houses.

The new walkway extends along the western boundary of the long narrow plot between the two streets, with a mix of new building and retained existing buildings along this route. The entrance to the site is under the Grade II listed Old Market Street building which will be retained and refurbished.

The remaining ground floor stone walls of the former Redcross Street British School, as well as the later extension (known as the "Sugar Store") are incorporated into the design of a new four storey apartment building on the north end of the site.

Planning permission was obtained in August 2009.
