The Longhouse, Lydstep Terrace

2008

This conversion of a redundant factory in Southville, Bristol provides 23 new flats, built on top of the existing first floor slab using timber frame construction over two storeys with the existing internal walls and rear external walls removed.

The existing ground floor is to be converted to commercial use (cafe and business units) with all external walls retained. The new elements are finished in render and timber cladding with a barrelled zinc roof. The existing red brick and concrete detailed front elevation is retained and refurbished to provide individual entrances to the business units and a main entrance to the apartments, the upper floor is also retained and existing openings provide the apartments with a view over the adjacent park.
