The refurbishment of the King Edward Building provided facilities for a number of departments including the Mortuary, Chaplaincy and Hotel Services.
The Mortuary was relocated to a retired ward within the Queens Building with complex servicing and statutory requirements. The brief included the requirement for specialist refrigeration systems, as well as sensitively designed rooms for bereaved families and visitors.
The Chaplaincy also had a complex brief due to a high number of stakeholders. This was particularly influential on the development of the Sanctuary space, which was required to accommodate visitors from a number of religions. The Sanctuary was subsequently nominated for a Better Buildings Healthcare Award.
