New Offices and Therapy Facilities, Purdown, Bristol, for Phoenix NHS Trust

Completed 1997

The new wing re-orientates the existing community building with a new entrance, reception area, therapy rooms and administrative offices for an NHS Mental Healthcare Trust. The new brick clad building uses exposed timber extensively, both internally and externally. A raised seam metal roof, at a lower pitch than the surrounding buildings adds a distinctive character to the new wing at an economical cost.

At first floor, the laminated timber roof structure is exposed, giving a warm and welcoming feeling. Rooflighting and large windows bring daylight into the building, and afford views over the landscaped site and the city of Bristol beyond. Perforated metal sunshades to both long elevations articulate the roof eaves and provide shading to the offices, particularly during the summer months.
