St Nicholas of Tolentino Church, Easton, Bristol

2003 - 2008

OLearyGoss have worked on this project to release funds from the land owned by the church since 2003. Planning permission for residential use around the Church building was obtained and the site sold (see St Nicholas Court).

The funds from this, together with some grant funding, allowed for the reorganisation of St Nicholas Church to provide enhanced accommodation for the Parish. The presbytery (former priests house) now accommodates the Parish administrative facilities and meeting rooms. The church has been remodelled to include a new church hall with mezzanine, and an extension housing overflow and community rooms. The worship space has been redesigned using light materials which form a backdrop to the vibrant ecclesiastical art commissioned by the parish from Malawi. Existing stained glass windows have been retained and restored and lost stained glass windows replaced.

We worked closely with the parish throughout this project, developing our design to reflect the ethos of the parish, and sensitively linking the old with the new.

The project was awarded a Bristol Civic Society Environmental Award.
