‘We can see the sea!’ Permission received for penthouse topped five storey apartment building in Weston-super-Mare

Planning permission has been received for O’LearyGoss Architect’s designs for an apartment development on a steeply sloping site in Weston-Super-Mare. The project on Atlantic Road South for the PG Group, provides 18 high quality apartments with generous proportions, outside space and sea views. Two of the apartments are large penthouses with extensive rooftop terraces.

Located within a conservation area of largely Victorian villas, the design echoes the traditional materials and detailing to the street elevation. The multi-faceted slate roof and gables facing the street completes the sympathetic design. The seaward facing side of the building is contemporary in design, with render finish and cantilevered balconies. The set-back penthouse level is clad with raised seam metal

As well as using robust materials, the sustainability of the building is enhanced by taking a ‘fabric first’ approach with insulation levels being taken well above the requirements of the Building Regulations. One third of the apartments meet the criteria for accessible and adaptable dwellings.

Planning granted for residential development of disused pub

Permission has been granted for the development of the old Princess of Wales public house in Bedminster into three large apartments (2 no. 3 and 1 no. 4 bed). The retrofit of this near derelict building will restore the original street front facades whilst adding a new mansard storey and rear extension to make room for the three residential units. The roof storey is clad in slate  and has a biodiverse flat roof whilst the extension to the rear is finished in red brick to match adjacent properties.

Construction stage information is in progress with work on site to commence in the near future, aiming for completion in early 2021.
